Question: What other birds can you have with a cockatiel?
( Back )
Answer #1:
Budgies Keep them apart at first
Answer #2:
If your cockatiel is hand-reared, I suggest not getting another bird. If he is dependent on you for attention, getting another can seriously stress your boy out and cause competition.
But if he is more of a cage-bird rather then an inside pet bird, another cockatiel would probably be the best, as they tend to pick on smaller birds and get picked on by larger birds if they are in the same cage. Also, having more then one bird in a small area can cause "screaming matches" where they will try to make louder noises then the other.
Since it is only two days a week, I don't think it should be a problem. Buy him some new toys and put them in his cage. What I found with my cockatiel is that if I switch his toys every day (except for his one favorite flavored wood toy) it keeps him amused, especially if his cage is in a sheltered spot outside where he talks to the wild birds and the birds down the road.
