Question: Is it possible to tell how old a cockatiel is?
( Back )
Answer #1:
Mine is eight years old and he's still a brat, all energetic like mad, and flies all over the place. I would think he was 1 if I didn't have him all these years.
So yea..impossible to tell
By the way, nice pic for your avatar. My cockatiel loves bright fabric too...and he loves white cotton socks, absolutely loves them!
Answer #2:
Nope. The only way would be if you got him as a new born baby cockatiel.

Answer #3:
There is no visual way to tell the age of a cockatiel unless its a young bird and it matures to the point of color change, such as is seen in the normal grey. The males have a grey face with a wash of orange on their cheeks that usually turns bright yellow at sexual maturity. They also would loose the barring on thier tail feathers and the spots under their wings. Now if the bird was bred by a reputable breeder it should have an identification band on its leg. This should give you a state or club letters [such as ME or NCS or even the breeders initials] then a number 1-1000 which is its birth order number, and a year. If this is the case then you would know right away. I wish you the best of luck with this, but most of all, enjoy your new pet. Cockatiels can live 30 years if well cared for and on a proper diet.
